OOLOGAH —
A $400,000 transportation bond for the purchase of new buses and Chevrolet Suburbans will be decided on Tuesday by Oologah-Talala school district voters.
The bond money is necessary to upgrade an aging fleet, said Superintendent Rob Armstrong.
“We need to be able to provide our students with safe, reliable transportation.”
Oologah currently has eight 1991 model school buses with high mileage and the district has been having mechanical problems with the vehicles.
The $400,000 bond will not raise property tax mileage rates, said Armstrong.
He said a new school bus costs more than $100,000 depending on the options needed. A special education bus can cost between $120,000 and $130,000.
“The only reason I think it would fail is if we failed to get the information out to residents,” he said. “We hope to see a supermajority vote.”
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters can cast absentee ballots Monday at the Rogers County Election Board.
