CHS band to host annual Mid-Winter Contest, Concert

CLAREMORE —  

Claremore High School senior band and color guard expect to see a full house for the 6th annual Mid-Winter Contest and Concert. The free concert will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Robson Performing Arts Center with an opening by the Tulsa Community Band. 
Originally organized in 1938 as the American Legion band, the Tulsa Community Band is composed of musicians from all walks of life: police, teachers, firemen, doctors, retired military and more.
“The Tulsa Community Band is a great example of how one can enjoy playing music for a lifetime,” said CHS Band Booster Membership Coordinator Debbie Gunkel.
Following will be the CHS Symphonic Band.
This is the 6th year for CHS to host the two contests. Concert band contest will take place Thursday, followed by Jazz band on Friday. The all day events include 19 concert bands and nine jazz bands from every size school around the area.
“We hear a lot of compliments on our beautiful performing arts center,” said Gunkel. “Having the Robson PAC puts Claremore on the map as we are now known for having the facilities to host yearly honor bands and contests.”
Donations for Thursday’s concert will be accepted to help both bands purchase music and other expenses. Tax deductible checks can be made out to CHS band.
