CLAREMORE —
Special plans are underway for Claremore alumni when they return for this year’s homecoming.
The new Claremore Museum of History & Welcome Center will be ready to welcome past Zebras and family members back home.
“The majority of our funds — over $140,000 — raised thus far have been made by Claremore High School graduates,” said Tom Pool, chairman of the museum’s executive committee. “This is the 50th reunion for the Class of 1962 and we plan to have many of them present for our special opening.”
The preview opening will coincide with the Friday, Sept. 28 homecoming events.
Alumni will be able to step back in time to many high school memories.
One of the key exhibits to be on display is the old Claremore High School. Another will honor former Zebra coaches and All-State football players. Several are expected to be present.
“We are naming this ‘Homecoming at the Museum’ and I believe all our graduates will fall in love with this exhibit,” said Barbara Stafira. “Our exhibit committee has put together a wonderful display. I know it will bring back so many wonderful memories.”
In addition to the indoor exhibits, several antique vehicles will be on display around the museum. Some of them may have actually delivered students to the high school that once stood across the street.
Money for future exhibits is still needed, but Pool said “we will not be asking for donations at this gathering.”
Donation and membership forms will be available, however.
