Girls Scout give to Meals on Wheels

December 30, 2009 — Friday, Nov. 13 was a good day for Claremore Meals on Wheels clients. Meals on Wheels makes deliveries each Monday, Wednesday and Friday, even on holidays. On rare occasions, such as when schools are closed due to flooding, ice storms or extreme snow conditions, deliveries are not made.

Preparations are made in advance by providing Blizzard Bags, using long shelf-life goods the clients can stow away for the critical time needed.

Meredith Mackin, Project CEEP, and Terry Ball, Girl Scout leader from the Will Rogers Service Unit of Eastern Oklahoma, were both aware of this method used by Meals on Wheels and their organizations volunteered to assemble these bags.

The students and scouts used universal precautions when assembling the Blizzard Bags. All food was individually pre-packaged.

Students at CEEP included Mrs. Shaw's Class, Mrs. Riley's Class, Mrs. Rice's Class and Ms. Hemperley's Class. The Girl Scouts included Troop #'s 13, 57, 165, 221, 517, 669, 1189, 1307, 1308, 1309, 1312 and 2242. All are from Rogers County in the Will Rogers Service Unit.

Bags were recently delivered to Meals on Wheels clients. Meals on Wheels and clients alike are grateful for the contribution made by these special students and Girl Scouts.
