Everyone Has A Story — Reimer receives top honors

Sequoyah grad earns outstanding distinction

November 3, 2009 — Rogers County youth Thad McCoy Reimer recently received the highest honor degree awarded by the National FFA Organization — the American FFA Degree.

Reimer was awarded this honor Saturday, Oct. 24 at the 82nd National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Ind.

In awarding Reimer with this distinction, the National FFA Organization recognized Reimer’s demonstrated leadership abilities and outstanding achievements in agricultural business, production, procession and service programs.

Less than one in 154 FFA members advance through their local chapter and state FFA degree programs to earn this national degree.

Reimer is the son of Rick and Ginger Reimer of Claremore, and the grandson of Cliff and Fern McCoy, and Ernie and Marilyn Reimer.

He is currently a sophomore at Oklahoma State University, majoring in Agriculture Business.

He is a member of the Sequoyah FFA Chapter and his agricultural educational instructor and FFA advisor Rodney Arthur.

Reimer, a 2008 graduate of Sequoyah High School, is Sequoyah’s first national FFA degree recipient.

He received a gold American FFA Degree key and a certificate in a blue leatherette frame to commemorate the achievement. The recognition program is sponsored by Case IH, Farm Credit, Pioneer Hi-Bred, a DuPont Company and Syngeta, as a special project of the National FFA Foundation. The national FFA convention is the nation’s largest annual youth gathering, welcoming students, parents and educators from all across the United States.

The National FFA Organization, formerly known as the Future Farmers of America, is a National youth organization of 507,763 student members — all preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture — as part of 7,439 local FFA chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The National FFA Organization changed to its present name in 1988, in recognition of the growth and diversity of agricultural education. The FFA’s mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
