Jumping, bouncing, swinging.
Gymnastic City recently provided a unique opportunity for special needs children to play, exercise and just have fun durng its Special Needs Camp.
Judy Tucker of Gymnastic City said there was good response this year.
Four classes were offered.
“We focuses on large motor skill muscles, and following directions,” she said.
Participants each had a coach and a family member as they jumped on a trampolene or learned to do a back handspring. What was most present was smiles on the faces of the boys and girls.
Tucker, who began working part-time in gymnastics in 1976, said she “could find a way to quit.” Since then she has been training and coaching boys and girls.
Coach Jennifer Merryman played an active, hand-on role during the camp helping participants as they went down a giant slide or as they rolled backwards doing a handstand or somersault.
