Meet Republican candidates for Dist. 1 County Commissioner

Staff Reports Claremore Progress The Claremore Daily Progress Wed Jun 30, 2010, 11:25 AM CDT

CLAREMORE — Blake Lewis

Blake and Teresa Lewis are long-time residents of Rogers County, living within District 1 near Chelsea.

Blake believes in transparency of government, less federal government and over-sight, and that elected officials should be held accountable.

Blake attended Sequoyah Schools 10 years and  graduated from Claremore High.  He earned a B.S. From Northeastern State University.

Blake worked at Blackie's on SH 20 at age 12.  At 15, he began working for Safeway in Claremore.  That allowed Blake to attend college on an Educational Reimbursement Program.  Blake's career with Safeway spanned 18 years.

He purchased All-O-Matic Ice Co., which became Century Ice Co. Blake also opened and operated Swimmer Pools in Claremore, which consisted of a retail store and pool construction operation.

Blake later purchased and operated Jiffy Mart in Chelsea, where he and Teresa added the Mazzio's Pizza franchise in 1999.

After operating Jiffy Mart for 16 years, Blake and Teresa sold the business.

Teresa works as a rural letter carrier for the Chelsea Post Office and travels District 1 roads daily.  Blake operates their cattle farm. Blake has lived and worked within the District 1 boundaries most of his life.  He values the importance of working with others to create a team which shares a common goal of success.

Larry Dealy

Larry Dealy has lived in Rogers County for nearly 30 years and raised a family here. He has been in the construction business most of that time. He and wife Rebecca have a home in Claremore in the District 1 area and are raising their grandson, Riley.

“This area has been very gracious and kind to me and I feel it is time to give back,” said Dealy.

Dealy said he believes the county needs to spend dollars prudently and frugally to get the most “bang for your buck.”

He is committed to establishing a county-wide Planning Commission that includes areas currently not incorporated into the Rogers County planning system. Dealy has been active in church his entire life, often serving as chairman on various boards and committees.

“I have been a youth sports coach, a Girl Scout Leader, and remain a lifelong Boy Scout Leader,” said Dealy. “I sat on the Advisory Board for Electrical Technology at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas.”

Dealy said he was actively involved in establishing county-wide zoning and planning in Crawford County, Kansas and sat on the Zoning and Appeals Board there. He is a United States Army Reserve Veteran having served from 1967 through 1973.
