Rotary Club to host ‘Dancing With the Stars’ fundraiser

Tom Fink Staff Reporter The Claremore Daily Progress Sat Jan 12, 2013, 04:09 PM CST

CLAREMORE — Members of the Reveille Rotary Club have stars in their eyes, but these stars don’t twinkle, they dance.

This March, the morning Rotary Club will host a “Dancing with the Stars of Rogers County” fundraiser, with local celebrities to put their best foot — or rather, feet — forward for a good cause.
“Claremore Reveille Rotary Club President Richard H. Mosier had attended a similar presentation in the State of Kansas and felt the Claremore community could replicate that success, bringing awareness and raising funds for the people and agencies that serve critical community needs,” said Clarice Doyle, Reveille Rotary Club member.
“There are 1,034 seats available in the (event location) Robson Performing Arts Center,” Mosier said of the venue. “With hard work, dedication and enthusiasm we can fill them all to the benefit of each participating organization and the citizens of Rogers County.”
For the event, dancers will present a 90-second program of their choice. A panel of celebrity judges and audience participation will determine the winning dance team.
A trophy will be awarded to each member of the winning team declaring that he or she is  “The Best Dancer In Rogers County for 2013.
Further, agencies will raise money by soliciting votes (or dollars) in support of their team at booths which will be located in the lobby of the PAC.  All of the votes (money) in the ballot box at the end of voting will go to support the collecting agency.
The event is scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, March 9 in the Robson Performing Arts Center.
In addition to the dancing, special entertainment will be provided by Merritt Armitage and the A Bar Bunkhouse Band, who will perform in concert during the voting intermission.
Tentative event participants are Gus Ramirez and Danielle (Volunteers for Youth), David Clanin and Cassie Wood (Health Community Partners ), Bob Anderson and Julie Newman (Literacy Council), Chad and Misty Choat (Claremore Schools Foundation), Chris and Barbara Christmann (Senior Citizens), Kristin and Chad Rohr (Barnes Children’s Center),  Julie Wilson and James Weddington (Rogers County Adult Day Care), Joel Reimer and Page Montgomery (Meals on Wheels), and Madeline and Barry Clark (Tri-County CASA).
Admission Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Advance tickets available from any Reveille Rotary Club member.
