CLAREMORE —
A Verdigris woman is among three finalists in the NBC Today Show's Mother of the Year Contest.
Jennifer Winn, was nominated by her husband, Kenneth, and was notified Friday of her selection.
The Winns with their two sons, Cody, 18, a Catoosa High School senior, and Tallon, 12, a sixth grader at Verdigris Elementary, left Wednesday morning for New York City.
“I was so very excited about being nominated,” Jennifer said Wednesday from New York City. “I was in shock and awe for a while because I didn’t know my husband had nominated me. I am doing better now.”
Being in the Big Apple is not totally new for Jennifer, she visited the city 10 years ago.”
“I am so appreciative of my husband, what he has done for me this Mothers’ Day,” Jennifer said.
She will appear on the Today Show with hosts Kathy Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb at 1 p.m. Thursday when the winner of the contest is revealed.
Winn works at Flora Creations in Claremore.
Floral Creations owner Dawn McClain said Kenneth recently had a leg amputated.
He remained off work until he lost his job and saw the contest on the Today Show.
McClain said he entered his wife in the contest for all she does for him and their sons.
