TULSA —
The best two Class 3A teams in the Tulsa-Metro area clash tonight for a shot at a district championship.
Metro Christian (7-0 overall, 3-0 District 3A-6) hosts Verdigris (7-0 overall, 4-0 district) at 7:30 p.m. in what is expected to be an offensive shootout.
Metro Christian uarterback Andrew Hearon ranks fifth in the area in passing, completing 92-of-131 passes for 1,617 yards and 22 touchdowns with only one interception.
Hearon’s ability to find the end zone has enabled Metro Christian to light up the scoreboard and outscore opponents 298-99.
A year ago, Hearon passed for 363 yards and five touchdowns as Metro Christian walloped Verdigris 52-30.
On the flipside, Verdigris quarterback Christian Hitchcock isn’t too shabby either, completing 83-of-143 passes for 1,422 yards and 11 touchdown with only two interceptions.
The difference, however, could be the Verdigris running game which is led by tailback Tanner Smith, who has 103 carries for 868 yards and 17 touchdowns.
Bryce Lindsey also contributes with 60 carries for 655 yards and nine touchdowns for Verdigris.
Offensively, Verdigris has tallied 331 points in seven games for an average of 47.2 points per game.
The winner of this showdown will have the inside track to the district championship, as well as the top spot in the playoffs.
