WAGONER —
Oologah kept it close for 12 minutes, but No. 1 Wagoner hit cruise control in the second and third quarter to blow out the Mustangs, 55-14 Friday night in District 4A-3 play.
After holding Wagoner to a 14-7 first quarter lead, the Bulldogs rolled off 28 unanswered points to mount a 42-7 halftime lead.
Oologah quarterback Zach Cantwell fired an 18-yard touchdown pass to Dalton Barnes in the first quarter and J.D. Thomas added an 8-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter for the Mustangs’ only scoring.
Kevin Peterson only carried the ball six times, but the Wagoner standout tallied 230 yards and scored four first-half touchdowns on runs of 74, 35, 35 and 89 yards.
Wagoner’s potent running game hammered Oologah’s defense for 400 yards on 43 carries.
Defensively, the Bulldogs held Oologah’s offense to 187 total yards.
