Inola Spanish Club presents donation to families affected by Mannford fires

INOLA — Recently, club sponsor Margie Erwin and three officers from the Inola High School Spanish Club drove to Mannford to meet with three families affected by the recent fires.

During the meeting, Erwin along with members and Mannford  District Superintendent Steve Waldvogel presented the families a check for $200.
“We were all in tears as each officer gave the representative hugs,” said Erwin.
“It was overwhelming but very touching.”
Mannford resident Joe Anaya and his family raised funds for the fire victims despite having lost everything themselves.
The Anaya family is currently in the process of building a new home.
“Its hard to imagine what it’s like to experience something like this and have to start over from scratch,” said Erwin.  “Our hearts go out to all of the families involved.”
Unable to meet with the Spanish club officers, the other two families both received checks for $200 as well.
Erwin said each recipient of the donation had to be unemployeed and have at least one child in the Mannford school district.
The Inola High School Spanish Club raises funds regularly each school year for the community and for those in need, including people involved in accidents who cannot afford to pay medical bills.
“I try to teach my students to always give when there are excess funds available,” she said.  “It may not be a lot but it still makes a difference.”
