Inola Archery Team places fifth in district

INOLA — Inola’s  AFJROTC and AG’s combined Archery Team finished in fifth place for the District Archery Competition.

The team will find out later this month if they will be invited to the state competition. In the past, the top 20 teams out of the five divisions have been invited.  

In the individual female category Kari Delong finished third and Sara Fugate fifth place. This earned both shooters an invite to the state competition on March 28 in Oklahoma City.

Fugate and Delong learned and have shot archery with AFJROTC for the past three years.  

Delong took what she learned in Inola AFJROTC Archery, and with the help of Jamie Gray, assisted in starting up the AG Archery program.

This year they chose to shoot with AG, because AG did not have the number of female shooters required by state rules. According to state rules, each school can only have one archery team, so this year AG and AFJROTC combined the best eight shooters from each archery program.

Inola AFJROTC has almost all of their students taking part in archery. With many of them just a few points away from each other, Inola AFJROTC is a very competitive program.

The Archery Team at district competition included: Conrad Moore, Mackenzie Daugherty, Jesse Rowe, Sara Fugate, Cheryl Florea, Paige (Elizabeth) O’Hern, Kayleigh Thesenvitz and Dustin Rawlings. Alternates were Jacob Eddy, Mikayla Calico, Alexandria Davis and Cody Miller.
