Calling all volunteers - Election workers needed for November’s General Election

CLAREMORE — The upcoming presidential election is approaching, however there is one gap in the system that needs filling. 

Rogers County Election Board Secretary Julie Dermody is putting out a call for help to registered voters to work the polls. 
Each of the 36 polling places needs a minimum of three volunteers to manage the election process. 
The judge and clerk for the sites must be from different political affiliations so that each party is equally represented, she said.
“If we do not have people that are willing to make sure the process is carried out the way it was intended, then the process itself is doomed,” Dermody said. 
The change with the increased age of poll volunteers has left the election board short a number of volunteers.
“We live in the United States and can express our opinions freely that is the great thing about living in this country,” she said, “It is that idea that is in danger if we do not get more volunteers.”
Training for poll volunteers is scheduled for Oct. 9 from 2 to 6 p.m and 4 to 8 p.m. and is necessary to insure volunteers will be ready. Volunteers are paid $25 for training and $87 for services on Election Day.
Volunteers will be needed for a minimum of 13 hours during the election, Dermody said. For more information about working with the election board contact Julie Dermody at (918) 341-2965.
