Some Rogers County residents losing cable service Saturday

Zoom Media dropping service

CLAREMORE — Some area residents may experience a complete black out of cable television by years end as Zoom Media LLC discontinues services for customers in Claremore, Pryor, Collinsville and Owasso scheduled for Saturday.

The cable provider services rural areas and have been offering cable television to residents since March. A series of cable provider buyouts and changes have occurred through the past two years according to Zoom customer, Brian Bowski.

Unfortunately, customers received a letter right before Christmas notifying them of the changes, he said.

“I don’t see how they can cut off services to people without a back up ready to take over,” Bowski said.

The letter Bowski received not only notified him the services would end but told him to return his cable box or pay a $450 fee.

Customers are instructed to return the box to the Wal-Mart parking lot on Jan. 10 or 12 and included a two-hour time slot, according to Bowski. The letter reads “Look for our sign”.

Bowski started losing channels around Thanksgiving but did not expect this unwelcome holiday surprise.

Many people rely on cable to provide local news, weather and emergency information. Since the change in antenna television services a few years ago customers can no longer put on a pair of rabbit ears to get channels.

Digital converters are required and many people still do not own them.

As many of us watch the ball drop in Times Square or other nationally covered New Years football games, the Bowski family and others will once again be looking for new cable service.

“Makes it difficult to find other services on short notice and during the holidays when many companies are closed,” Bowski said.

Zoom Media was contacted by Bowski and The Claremore Progress. Only an answering service for the company was reached. The operator stated all she could do was take the message. However a prerecorded phone message had been issued. It said, “A credit has been issued to all customers for loss of channels.”
