NORMAN —
The University of Oklahoma will face West Virginia in a Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship quarterfinal matchup at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, Saturday, March 9, at 8:30 p.m.
The Sooners (21-9, 11-9 Big 12) tied for third in the Big 12 with Texas Tech, but earned the No. 3 seed with a regular-season sweep of the Lady Raiders after a 77-73 victory in Lubbock Monday night.
Conference newcomer West Virginia (17-12, 9-9) lost at Texas 58-45 Tuesday to tie for fifth in the league with Oklahoma State and take the No. 6 seed following a tiebreaker procedure.
Oklahoma and West Virginia split the regular-season series with each team winning at home. The Sooners opened conference play Jan. 2 with a 71-68 victory in Norman. The Mountaineers defeated the Sooners 82-63 in Morgantown, W.Va., on Feb. 3.
Oklahoma is 22-12 all-time in the Big 12 Championship and is tied with Baylor with a league-leading four tournament titles in its history.
The Sooners are 8-4 in the quarterfinal round and have advanced past the round each of the last four years.
A victory in Saturday's quarterfinal would advance Oklahoma to Sunday's semifinal round to play the winner of Iowa State and Kansas/TCU at 3:30 p.m.
The championship final is Monday at 7 p.m.
Oklahoma's Whitney Hand and Big 12 correspondent Wendell Barnhouse will co-host a postgame show online at Big12Sports.com following each game of the tournament.
Ron Thulin (play-by-play) and Brenda VanLengen (analyst) will be on the call for FSN's coverage of the Big 12 Championship. FSN will broadcast games beginning with Saturday's quarterfinals.
The Big 12 Championship returned to Dallas this year for the first time since 2006 when Oklahoma beat Baylor at Reunion Arena for the tournament title. OU also won a Big 12 title when the tournament was hosted in Dallas in 2004.
