NEW YORK — James Neal scored twice, Evgeni Malkin assisted on three Pittsburgh goals, and the Penguins chased reigning Vezina Trophy winner Henrik Lundqvist from the net in the second period of a 6-3 victory over the Rangers in New York's home opener on Sunday night.

Neal, Tyler Kennedy and Matt Niskanen all scored in the first period, and Malkin set up Pascal Dupuis in the second to push Pittsburgh's lead to 4-1 and drive Lundqvist to the bench. The Penguins, building off a 3-1 win at Philadelphia on Saturday, are 2-0 in the lockout-shortened season and haven't even played a home game.

Neal added his second of the game and third of the season off another assist by Malkin to make it 5-1 at 5:06 of the third. Kris Letang added an empty-net goal with 1:52 left to close the scoring.

Veteran backup Tomas Vokoun started for Pittsburgh over Marc-Andre Fleury and was solid in making 31 saves.

On the flip side, the Rangers - who won the Atlantic Division last season and had the top seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs - are 0-2 despite the addition of star forward Rick Nash, who netted his first goal with New York.

SABRES 5, FLYERS 2

Thomas Vanek scored twice and added three assists in leading Buffalo over Philadelphia.

Defenseman Tyler Myers scored the go-ahead goal with 5:03 left after the Sabres overcame a 2-1 second-period deficit. Cody Hodgson and newly acquired forward Steve Ott also scored for the Sabres. Captain Jason Pominville set up two goals and Ryan Miller made 27 saves in helping Buffalo improve to 6-1-1 in its past eight season openers.

Vanek became the first Sabres player with five points in a game since Drew Stafford had three goals and two assists in January 2008.

Claude Giroux, with his second goal of the season, and Sean Couturier scored for the Flyers, who were coming off a 3-1 season-opening loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday. This marks just the 10th time Philadelphia has opened 0-2.

BLACKHAWKS 6, COYOTES 4

Dave Bolland had two goals and an assist, Marian Hossa scored twice against the team that knocked him out of last year's playoffs and Chicago spoiled another celebration by holding off Phoenix.

Chicago ruined the Los Angeles Kings' Stanley Cup banner-raising ceremony Saturday with a flurry of goals and did the same thing to the Coyotes after their Pacific Division banner unveiling.

Hossa had two goals and an assist against the Kings in his first game since being knocked out of last year's playoffs on a blindside hit by Phoenix's Raffi Torres.

Against the Coyotes, Hossa scored 50 seconds before Viktor Stalberg in the second period and again 14 seconds into the third.

The Coyotes pulled within a goal when Martin Hanzal and Shane Doan scored 50 seconds apart, but Bolland made it 6-4 with his second goal 22 seconds later.

Patrick Sharp also scored for the Blackhawks, who have 11 goals in two games.

David Moss and Antoine Vermette also scored for the Coyotes, and Doan added an assist in his 1,200th NHL game.

OILERS 3, CANUCKS 2, SO

Ales Hemsky scored in the third period to tie the game and added the shootout winner and Edmonton defeated Vancouver.

Sam Gagner also scored in the shootout for the Oilers, who were making their debut in the lockout-shortened season, while Devan Dubnyk stopped both Vancouver attempts.

The Canucks blew a 2-0 lead and have suffered back-to-back losses after losing 7-3 to Anaheim at home on Saturday night.

Jordan Eberle had the other goal in regulation for Edmonton.

Alex Edler and Zack Kassian scored for Vancouver.

Roberto Luongo, who was expected to be traded after being displaced as Vancouver's starter by Cory Schneider in last spring's playoffs, made his second straight appearance in the young season and finished with 30 saves.

Dubnyk finished with 27 to get the win.

SHARKS 4, FLAMES 1

Patrick Marleau scored a pair of goals to lead San Jose over Calgary in the season opener for both teams.

Martin Havlat and defenseman Dan Boyle also scored for the Sharks during a three-goal second period.

Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski each had a pair of assists.

Lee Stempniak scored for Calgary, which led 1-0 after the opening period.

With the victory, the Sharks spoiled the debut of new Flames coach Bob Hartley.

San Jose goaltender Antti Niemi made 31 saves for the win. Miikka Kiprusoff, playing his 600th career game, stopped 25 of 29 shots for Calgary.

WILD 1, STARS 0

Zach Parise scored his first goal with the Wild and Josh Harding stopped all 24 shots he faced in his first start since being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and Minnesota beat Dallas.

Parise notched his third point with the Wild a night after getting two assists in Minnesota's season-opening win against Colorado.

Parise's first goal of the season came at 8:11 of the first period just as a 4-on-3 advantage for the Wild expired.

He one-timed a pass from Pierre-Marc Bouchard past Cristopher Nilstorp from the slot.

Nilstorp, who signed with the Stars in June after playing the previous four seasons in the Swedish Elite League, stopped 31 shots in his first career NHL start for Dallas.
