Shinn at 3 p.m.: Sooners hope to sustain ground game

NORMAN — Through two games, Oklahoma has rushed for 554 yards and averaged 7.1 yards per carry. It's been a great start for a program that's typically struggled to run the ball early in the season.



Of course, the Sooners are going to see better competition than UTEP and Florida A&M down the road.



"We’ve been doing a better job there and it needs to continue," centers and guards coach James Patton said. "It’s not that we didn’t see good players and schemes in the first two games, but we’ll continue to see really good players. The team we’re getting ready to face is only giving up about 2.5 to 2.7 yards per rush and 67 yards a game rushing, or something like that. The challenge will be there for sure."



The challenge is to see how long OU can average more than 200 rushing yards a game. The last time it did was 2004. That was also the last time the Sooners went undefeated during the regular season.
