Collinsville blasts Pryor, 34-6

COLLINSVILLE — The Collinsville Cardinals clinched a playoff berth in District 5A-4 Friday night with a 34-6 victory over the Pryor Tigers.

Collinsville quarterback Zane McElroy accounted for four touchdowns — two rushing and two passing — as the Cardinals improved to 7-2 overall and 4-2 in district.

The Cardinals carried a 21-0 lead into halftime and continued to pour it on Pryor, increasing the margin to 28-0 after three quarters.

Nick Salazar got the Cardinals’ offense rolling early in the first quarter on a 48-yard touchdown pass from McElroy to put Collinsville ahead, 7-0.

A pair of second-quarter 1-yard touchdown runs by McElroy gave Collinsville a comfortable halftime lead at 21-0.

The Cardinals’ offense chalked up 413 total yards — including 238 through the air.

In the third quarter, Priddy raced in from the 3-yard line to put Collinsville ahead, 28-0.

McElroy’s 40-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver T.J. Johnson in the fourth quarter extended the Collinsville lead to 34-0.

Pryor, who was led by running back Carson Smallwood, got on the board late in the fourth quarter on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Keegan Yates to Brannon Barth.

Smallwood led the Pryor offense with 157 yards on 28 carries.

  • Texas Longhorns men's track coach retires

    Texas men's track coach Bubba Thornton is retiring after 18 years and 12 conference championships.
    According to a statement from the school on Monday, Thornton and athletic director DeLoss Dodds mutually agreed to terminate the coach's contract effective Aug. 31. The Longhorns won this year's Big 12 indoor and outdoor championships and finished sixth at the NCAA outdoor championships.
