Zebras disposes of Bixby
December 9, 2009 — The Claremore Zebras defeated the Bixby Spartans 88-68 in a Metro Lakes matchup. It was an up and down the court affair.
Claremore Brad Janzen led Claremore in scoring with 22 followed by Robert Broyles who had 17.
The first quarter ended the way the game began tied at 8-8. Dakota Beller put the Zebras on the board first. Dakota Caudill added a free throw and a basket at the 4:22 mark. Dillion Jordan added a basket and Alex Rounds added a single free throw to tie up the game at the end of the first.
Beller opened with a two-point basket and Boyles followed with a three to give the Zebras a 17-11 lead.
Caudill's basket and Boyles second three of the quarter built Claremore's lead to seven with 5:36 before half.
A Janzen basket and free throw extended Claremore's lead to nine at 25-16. Michael Skimbo and a Janzen three ran the Zebra lead to 30-18.
Bixby made a run at Claremore with a 1:31 left. Bixby scored a basket and a free throw to get back to being down 34-28.
Two more baskets by Bixby and the Spartans were only down two at 36-34 going into halftime.
Janzen broke a 46-46 with a basket with 5:11 left in the third. Boyles increased the lead to four and Ben James hit two free throws to give the Zebras some breathing room.
Janzen continued to shoot well hitting another three at the 2:23 left in the third. Janzen's three gave Claremore a nine-point lead at 58-49.
The two teams traded baskets back and forth to the end the third quarter at 62-55.
Claremore began to assert itself and take command in the game. With 3:53 left the Zebras led by 12 at 74-62 on another basket by Janzen.
Claremore scored 14 more points in the remaining three minutes to put the game out of reach and pick up the conference win.
