After a strong showing in the Tournament of Champions by both Verdigris teams, it’s back to Will Rogers Conference action tonight at Dewey.
The Class 3A No. 4-ranked Lady Cardinals (10-2) highlight the doubleheader with a 6:30 p.m. showdown against the Lady Bulldoggers.
Dewey is 1-4 on the season, according to okrankings.com.
The Lady Cardinals, meanwhile, went 2-1 in the Tournament of Champions and notched wins over Class 2A Colbert, 50-48, and Class B Erick, 34-29. The lone loss came to Class 6A Jenks, 54-40 in the tournament opener.
The Cardinals (10-2) also are ranked No. 4 in Class 3A heading into the new year.
Under the leadership of veteran head coach Randy Upshaw, the Cardinals also went 2-1 in the Tournament of Champions with wins over Class B Arnett, 71-67, and Class A Weleetka, 63-44. The loss came to Class 4A Roland, 79-58 in the tournament opener.
Verdigris will tip off against Dewey (5-3) at 8 p.m.
Dewey closed out 2012 with a 50-39 victory over Rejoice Christian.
