February 5, 2010 — Junior guard Deveric Taylor led all scorers with 25 points and the Rogers State men improved to 7 and 0 all-time against Mid-America Christian with a 104 to 81 smashing of the Evangels.
Senior forward Sylvester Spicer returned to the floor for the first time after serving an eight game suspension and did not disappoint.
Spicer poured in 17 points and grabbed six rebounds in front of a very appreciative crowd at the Claremore Expo center on Thursday night.
“We knew he (Spicer) would be a little rusty but he is a very intelligent player and we know that he will be back to game form in no time,” said RSU men’s head coach Lloyd Williams.
The rustiness was evident in Spicer’s six turnovers but his positive impact on the game and his teammates was very clear.
“The entire team’s energy level was great and it means a lot to them to have Spicer back on the court,” said Williams.
The Hillcats (15-7, 8-6 Sooner Athletic conference) 104 points scored ties their all-time record for a Sooner Athletic conference game.
Hillcat leading scorer and senior Lance Sullivan scored 16 points in the contest.
No RSU player logged over 26 minutes of play as coach Williams enjoyed the deepest bench he has had all season long.
“I have to find a good flow of substituting to where our players feel comfortable and can find a rhythm,” said Williams.
The Evangels were led by Brandon Williams and Charlie Shorter who scored 18 and 16 points respectively.
The RSU men will travel to Oklahoma City University on Saturday as they look to complete the season sweep of the Stars.
