Sequoyah hosts Berryhill in ‘big’ District 3A-5 contest

SEQUOYAH — Playoff implications will be on the line Friday night at Pope Athletic Complex.

The Claremore Sequoyah Eagles hosts Berryhill in a huge District 3A-5 contest.

Kick off is slated for 7 p.m.

Claremore Sequoyah (4-2 overall, 2-0 district) dominated Blackwell, 42-0 in district competition on the road.

Berryhill, meanwhile, improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in district with its 40-7 win over Sperry.

The Chiefs jumped out to a 17-0 first quarter lead and continued their onslaught with a 31-0 margin at halftime against Sperry.

Using a solid running game, Berryhill got first half scoring from Ty Walker (22 yards), Chad Dillard (7 yards), Chase Bristow (3 yards) and Tyler Hudson (3 yards). Justin Dunn also converted a 40-yard field goal.

In the second half, Zach Jackson connected with Trevor Pierce for a 5-yard touchdown reception and Berryhill also forced a safety.

Offensively, the Chiefs are averaging 37 points per game.

Jackson leads the Berryhill offense with 82 completions in 134 attempts for 813 yards and 13 touchdowns with 3 interceptions.

    The four-year letterwinner and three-time Class 4A state champion forward announced Tuesday that she will commit to playing NCAA Division I soccer at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa.

    The awards keep piling up for Verdigris High School graduate Blake Battenfield.
    After being named to the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State Large East team earlier this week, Battenfield and numerous other players from Rogers County earned OCA All-Region accolades.
    Battenfield was joined by his teammate, Ryan Hurd, who was a senior outfielder/shortstop for the three-time Class 3A state champion Verdigris Cardinals.

    The 10th-seeded Rogers State baseball team struggled offensively in its first game at the Avista-NAIA World Series as the Hillcats fell to the host Lewis-Clark State 6-1 on Friday night at Harris Field.

    Cody Faulkner tossed the fourth no-hitter in the 57-year history of the Avista-NAIA World Series, as No. 4 Northwood (Texas) eliminated No. 8 Sterling (Kan.), 1-0, Saturday morning at Harris Field. The no-hit bid is the first since 1992 when Rick Riddle of Wilmington (Del.) held Mount Olive (N.C.) hitless in 1992. The victory is the first-ever for Northwood at the World Series.

  • BIG 12 TOURNEY: Sooners keep Red Raiders off the board

    Oklahoma has made a complete turnaround in the last two days. The squad that looked dominant early in the season has re-emerged at the Big 12 tournament. The Sooners (38-19) rolled to their second straight tournament victory, thumping Texas Tech (25-30), 8-0, Friday, and improving to 2-0 in the event.
