With over 800 Twitter followers, 3,000 likes on Facebook and 26,000 video views on YouTube, Rogers State athletics is venturing into another realm of social media. As the Hillcat athletic department has joined one of the most popular social media platforms, Instagram.
Hillcat fans can now keep up-to-date with the Hillcats through a series of pictures on the Instagram app available for free in the Apple App Store and Google Play store.
“We are excited to provide another avenue for our fan base to connect through,” said Sara Williams, RSU assistant athletic director for media relations. “Hillcat fans will now have a number of ways to follow Hillcat athletics.”
In a matter of six months Instagram has grown 1,179 percent with daily active users growing from 860,000 in April 2012 to 11 million in September 2012. According to AppData.com, 57.9 percent of Instagram’s users are under the age of 25.
With the username @rsuhillcats, fans can follow and like photos uploaded from Hillcat athletic events. Fans can also follow Rogers State athletics on Instagram at http://instagram.com/rsuhillcats.
Users spent 257 minutes on the Instagram app as opposed to the 169.9 minutes spent on Twitter in August 2012. That same month, Instagram had 430,000 more daily users than Twitter as reported by mediabistro.com. According to Instagram , 40 million photos per day are added to the app worldwide with 8,500 likes happening per second and 1,000 comments per second.

Verdigris’ Hanslovan commits to ORU

Area players earn All-Region baseball awards
The awards keep piling up for Verdigris High School graduate Blake Battenfield.
After being named to the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State Large East team earlier this week, Battenfield and numerous other players from Rogers County earned OCA All-Region accolades.
Battenfield was joined by his teammate, Ryan Hurd, who was a senior outfielder/shortstop for the three-time Class 3A state champion Verdigris Cardinals. -
NEO softball season ends in Utah
Sophomore pitcher Maggie Ham struck out 12 batters to lead the No. 1 seed Butler (Kan.) Community College Grizzlies to a 5-2 victory over No. 4 seed Northeastern A&M College Friday afternoon in a loser's bracket elimination game of the NJCAA Women's Division 1 National Softball Tournament at the Canyons Complex.
