The Rogers State women’s basketball team completed the series sweep over Sooner Athletic Conference foe Oklahoma Baptist with a 70-55 win at Noble Complex on Saturday afternoon.
Seniors Logan Froese and Ariani Silva led the Hillcats to victory. Froese, a Claremore native, tied her career-high in scoring with 21 points and added a season-high 12 rebounds. Silva added a season-high 19 points.
The teams traded buckets to start the game but the Hillcats used a 10-2 run to build a 31-19 cushion with less than eight minutes to play in the half. The Cats held onto the double digit lead until the final two minutes of the stanza where the Lady Bison used a 6-0 spurt to cut the deficit to 42-35 at intermission.
Kelby Fritz opened the second frame with a trey from the left elbow to push the RSU lead back to 10 points. OBU cut the deficit to four points with 15 minutes to play. The Hillcats answered with a 6-0 run and the Cats never looked back. RSU led by as many as 18 points in the second half. The Hillcats held OBU to shooting just 18.8 percent from the field in the second half. The Cats won the battle on the boards, 44-35. RSU shot 40 percent from the field and were 26-of-29 from the charity stripe.
Fritz rounded out the Hillcats in double figures with 10 points. Janell Beacham led OBU with 14 points.
Rogers State (17-6, 7-2) will return to action at the Claremore Expo on Monday night against SAC opponent John Brown. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. The game will be streamed live on the Hillcat Network at www.rsuhillcats.com/live and on RSU Radio at 91.3 FM.

Verdigris’ Hanslovan commits to ORU

Area players earn All-Region baseball awards
The awards keep piling up for Verdigris High School graduate Blake Battenfield.
After being named to the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State Large East team earlier this week, Battenfield and numerous other players from Rogers County earned OCA All-Region accolades.
Battenfield was joined by his teammate, Ryan Hurd, who was a senior outfielder/shortstop for the three-time Class 3A state champion Verdigris Cardinals. -
Clyde Barkley Basketball Camp starts May 28-30 in Inola
The Clyde Barkley Boys Basketball Camp will get underway on May 28-30 at Inola High School Gymnasium.
The three-day camp will go from 9 a.m. to Noon and is offered to boys entering third through ninth grade. The cost of the camp is $55 or $100 for two campers in the same family. -
Zebras Baseball/Softball Camp set for May 29-31
The Claremore Zebras baseball and softball camp will take place on May 29-31 at Powers Park.
The camp is for boys and girls ages 4-14. The cost of this camp is $60 or $90 for two campers from the same family. Team discounts are also available for seven or more players. -
OU athletics pledges support to tornado relief efforts
OU Athletics officials have been advised by local relief agencies that the best way to help Oklahoma disaster victims is to text RED CROSS to 90999 to give $10 or go online to make a donation at RedCross.org.

ORU hosts "Vaulting for Moore" fundraiser
The day after a devastating tornado ripped through Moore, Okla., the Oral Roberts University Track & Field program has announced that it will host a fundraiser to help in the aid and recovery efforts. Drillers pledge $10,000 toward tornado relief efforts
The Tulsa Drillers announced today that the team was donating $10,000 to the tornado relief efforts on behalf of those who were affected by this week's storms in Shawnee and Moore, Oklahoma.The donation will be made to the American Red Cross.
