FOYIL —
Kris Miller and Will Wood combined for 178 rushing yards as No. 6 Foyil blasted Ketchum 34-0 last Friday night in non-district action at Panther Stadium.
Miller, a senior fullback, carried 16 times for 94 yards and scored two touchdowns, while Wood, a tailback, had nine carries for 84 yards and a touchdown.
“Overall, I was very pleased with our effort. Was it perfect? No, but the effort was great,” Foyil head coach Jesse Leigh said.
“The offensive line had a great night that made things a lot easier for the defense because we controlled the clock most of the night.”
Foyil quarterback Haskell Patton was 3-of-5 passing for 79 yards and two touchdowns, while wide receiver Zac Swinney had 95 all-purpose yards and a touchdown.
“Haskell (Patton) was efficient at quarterback and Kris (Miller) was his normal hard running self. Two kids that really showed up offensively were Zac (Swinney) and Will (Wood). Between the two they only had the ball 12 times but accumulated nearly 180 yards and two touchdowns, which really helps out Kris and Haskell,” Leigh said.
Defensively, Nic Purtell had five assists and four unassisted for nine total tackles, followed by Miller with eight stops and Swinney with five tackles and an interception.
Austin McIntosh also had five tackles and a sack, while Patton had three tackles, one pass breakup, one interception and one tackle for loss for minus 4 yards.
“We have a big game with Route 66 rival Chelsea this Friday, hopefully we can get geared up and have another good night and try to slow down a Dragon team with very good team speed,” Leigh said.
The Panthers (1-0) travel to Chelsea (1-0) for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff on Friday.
Chelsea rallied past Inola, 14-12 in the season opener last Thursday between both teams.
