WHITEHORSE, Yukon, Canada — Oklahoma’s Jessica Shults scored two of the USA Softball National Team’s 14 runs as it defeated Argentina, 14-1 Thursday at the ISF XIII Women’s World Fastpitch Championship.
With the win, the U.S. finished pool play with a record of 7-0 and advanced to the championship semifinals where it will face Canada on Friday.
Starting at catcher, Shults opened her night at the plate with a two-run double in the bottom of the first. Shults sent the second pitch she saw into play, scoring Valerie Arioto and Amelia Jenae Leles. Shults herself would score in the inning off a Molly Johnson double as the U.S. jumped out to a 12-1 lead in the first inning.
Shults reached base again in the third inning off a fielder’s choice and was again brought home by Johnson who picked up a single.
