Foyil wrecks Ketchum
KETCHUM – Kris Miller scored on an 87-yard kickoff return and a 47-yard breakaway run to help push the Foyil Panthers past Ketchum, 30-12, in a District A-8 high school football game on Friday night.
Miller had 120 yards on 20 carries to follow Dillon Noland, who counted 178 yards on 26 carries with a touchdown and two 2-point conversions as the Panthers moved to 4-1 in district play and 4-2 overall. Ketchum is 3-2 and 4-2.
“This puts us in a position to start at least thinking about the playoffs,” Foyil coach Trent Worley said. “I can’t say enough about how hard our kids are playing. We’re really coming together as a team.”
Miller got things started after Ketchum returned a fumble 30 yards for an early TD, but a 2-point conversion attempt was stopped short of the goal line. Ketchum’s extra-point kick was blocked on its previous score.
The Panthers quickly made up for any lost ground.
Noland jogged in from 13 yards out in the second quarter and quarterback Haskell Patton added a 2-point conversion run to log Foyil’s first lead of the night, 14-6.
Patton, filling in for an injured Jared Ward at the top of the offense, pulled down two interceptions from his defensive back position and hit 3-of-10 passes for 82 yards.
“He had a tremendous game,” Worley said. “He was involved in every significant snap on defense.”
Brandon Leland was the target of Patton’s lone touchdown throw – a 20-yarder followed up by a 2-point conversion run by Noland. Miller added the final blow as the Panthers held Ketchum scoreless in the second and third quarters.
“After week three at Commerce, this is where we wanted to be,” said Worley, refering to his team’s 49-0 shutout loss earlier in the season. “This is a great win for our kids.”
Ward dislocated his thumb in week two. His return is unknown.
