Sequoyah doubles up Dewey in Will Rogers Conference play

Mills, Nugent tally game-highs for Eagles

SEQUOYAH — Blake Mills and the Claremore Sequoyah Eagles returned to the win column Tuesday night with an impressive showing against Dewey in overtime at Olan Graham Fieldhouse.

Mills scored a game-high 25 points and Logan Tacker added 14 to lead the Eagles past the Bulldoggers, 68-62.

The win over Dewey improved Sequoyah to 6-12 on the year.

Over the weekend, Sequoyah went 1-2 in the Pryor Tournament, with its lone win coming against Sallisaw.

Sequoyah defeated Sallisaw, 45-34 in the consolation bracket. Earlier in the tournament, Sequoyah dropped games to Pryor, 83-50, and Collinsville, 57-49.

Riding the momentum on its victory over Sallisaw, Sequoyah fell behind 16-3 to Dewey in the first quarter.

The presence of Dewey’s Marsh and Davis helped spark the early-run for the Bulldoggers.

Marsh and Davis combined for 26 points (13 each), while Sanders added 11 and Stacy finished with 10.

Sequoyah continued to rally in the second quarter and narrowed the deficit to 30-19 at halftime.

In the second half, Sequoyah outscored Dewey, 38-27 to force the extra period.

Mills and Tacker received scoring help from Darrek Devore with 12 points and Alex McGoffin with 10.

In overtime, Sequoyah’s offense managed to topple Dewey, 11-5.

Earlier this season, Sequoyah beat Dewey, 63-58 on the road.

Lady Eagles 52, Dewey 39

Courtney Nugent poured in a game-high 15 points and Jessica Hansen added eight to spark the Lady Eagles past Dewey, 52-39.

With the win, the Lady Eagles improved to 8-10 on the season.

Dewey held a 10-8 lead after the opening quarter, but Sequoyah rallied with 15 points in the second quarter to lead 23-18 at halftime.

Aubyana Matussak also contributed with eight points and Savannah Mathews chipped in six for the Lady Eagles.

Sequoyah continued to extend its lead in the third quarter, going ahead 30-27. In the fourth quarter, Sequoyah outscored Dewey, 22-12 to seal the win.

Nelson led Dewey with 17 points.

    Session I of the camp is June 17-19, with Session II set for June 24-26, and cost for each camp is $200. Camp runs from 9 a.m.-noon each day.

    Keegan Bradley had no thoughts of a course record, or the possibility of a 59, after consecutive bogeys in the middle of his opening round at the Byron Nelson Championship.

    Until his 136-yard wedge shot on his final hole Thursday.

    “It was going right at it. (A 59) crossed my mind for a second, and it would be unbelievable if I buried this,” Bradley said. “But I had 3 feet to shoot 60. I was actually very nervous, uncomfortable over it and thank God I made it.”
