NSU Baseball Camp slated for Aug. 11

TAHLEQUAH — The Northeastern State University baseball team will hold its annual summer camp August 11 at the NSU baseball field.



The camp will take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., with on-site registration beginning at noon. Any student graduating from 2013-16 is eligible to participate. The camp is $60, and all participants will receive an NSU baseball t-shirt.



“This camp is an instructional showcase for high school athletes in the graduating classes of 2013-16.  Along with the evaluation portion, instruction on certain phases of the game will also be included with this camp,” NSU baseball coach Travis Janssen said. “Our camps will always be the first place we start in regards to recruiting.  We are looking for student-athletes with not only ability, but also young men that carry themselves with class and have high character.



“It is very important to the NSU coaching staff that each camper has a great baseball camp experience.  Our goal is that every camper comes away with something to help make him a better player."

    Claremore High School seniors Bryce Howe and Matt Whatley caught the eyes of several NCAA Division I and JUCO scouts Friday in Norman.
    Howe and Whatley, as well as Claremore’s Cole Weiesnbach and Cameron Smith, competed with the Bearcats — a competitive baseball team coached by Jenks’ Jeff Owens — at the University of Oklahoma Showcase.

  • Texas Longhorns men's track coach retires

    Texas men's track coach Bubba Thornton is retiring after 18 years and 12 conference championships.
    According to a statement from the school on Monday, Thornton and athletic director DeLoss Dodds mutually agreed to terminate the coach's contract effective Aug. 31. The Longhorns won this year's Big 12 indoor and outdoor championships and finished sixth at the NCAA outdoor championships.
