Morris running attack too potent for Inola

MORRIS — For three quarters of Thursday’s District 3A-6 game between Morris and Inola, there weren’t many offensive fireworks.

Both defenses were tenacious and relentless, until Morris got rolling in the fourth quarter.

Morris capitalized with a pair of touchdown runs to shutout the Inola Longhorns, 15-0 in league play.

With the win, Morris improved to 4-4 overall and 4-0 in District 3A-6. Inola, meanwhile, dropped to 3-5 overall and 1-3 in district.

Morris scored its first touchdown early in the fourth quarter on Guthrie Dean’s 85-yard run. Leroy Wilson added the two-point conversion run and Morris lead Inola, 8-0.

The Longhorns’ offensive attack couldn’t manage any success against Morris’ defense and the Eagles took a two touchdown lead over Inola on Tyler Claborn’s 2-yard run.

Inola returns to action on Friday in a district game at Henryetta. Kick off is slated for 7 p.m. Henryetta defeated Okmulgee, 18-13 last Thursday.

Area players earn All-Region baseball awards
The awards keep piling up for Verdigris High School graduate Blake Battenfield.
After being named to the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State Large East team earlier this week, Battenfield and numerous other players from Rogers County earned OCA All-Region accolades.
Battenfield was joined by his teammate, Ryan Hurd, who was a senior outfielder/shortstop for the three-time Class 3A state champion Verdigris Cardinals.
