Stillwater Sports Minute: Baylor game still has bowl implications for OSU

STILLWATER —  The Bedlam loss may have been heartbreaking for the Oklahoma State Cowboys, but the season is not lost. OSU now must refocus and prepare for a Baylor team playing at home that is coming in on a two-game winning streak — which includes delivering Kansas State its lone loss of the year.

"Kind of have to get over it tonight and get back to work (Sunday)," OSU quarterback Clint Chelf said following Saturday's Bedlam loss. "We have another game left. We have to put it in the rearview mirror and get ready for Baylor.

There is still plenty on the line for Oklahoma State in regards to bowl bids. While OSU no longer has a shot at a return to a BCS bowl, the Cowboys could land anywhere between the Cotton Bowl and the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl (formerly the Insight Bowl).

A win for Oklahoma State solidifies its chances at the better bowl, the Cowboys will still have to play the waiting game with Oklahoma and Kansas State.

The best case scenario for OSU, is if the Sooners top TCU and K-State clips Texas, it is possible both teams would earn BCS bids — opening up the opportunity for an 8-4 OSU team to play in the Cotton Bowl.

If OU loses, Kansas State would clinch the Fiesta Bowl bid regardless of its game against Texas and the Sooners will settle for the Cotton Bowl. OSU's bowl would then depend on the outcome of the Kansas State and Texas game, needing a K-State win to clinch a trip to the Alamo Bowl

If Oklahoma and Kansas State loses, the Pokes will be bound for the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl. It's also possible for OSU to play in the Arizona bowl game if Texas tops Kansas State — as UT would get the Alamo Bowl bid due to the head-to-head over Oklahoma State.

The Cowboys may be done with their regular season early Saturday with the 11 a.m. start at Baylor, but they will definitely be focusing on the televisions to find out where they could be landing in the bowl season.
