VINITA —
The Vinita Hornets pulled off a clean sweep Tuesday night, with decisive wins over the Oologah Mustangs.
In the girls game, the Lady Hornets rode the double-digit scoring of Chamberlain, Medell and Spurgeon to a 57-38 win over the Class 4A No. 9 Lady Mustangs.
The win improved the Lady Hornets to 12-6 on the season. Oologah, meanwhile, dropped to 14-4.
Chamberlain powered Vinita’s offensive attack with 17 points, while Medell added 12 and Spurgeon followed with 10.
Vinita led 12-8 after the opening quarter and 23-17 at halftime.
Brinley Evans scored 16 points and Taylor McElhaney had 10 to lead Oologah.
In the second half, Vinita outscored Oologah, 34-21.
Later, in the boys game, the Hornets exploded for 44 points in the second-half to beat the Mustangs, 66-50.
After watching Oologah jump out to a 26-22 halftime lead, the Hornets went on a scoring spree and finished with a 15-point victory.
King led Vinita with 20 points while Willis added 11 and Bertram contributed with 10.
Breyden DeSpain scored a game-high 22 points and Levi Potter answered with 11 to spark the Oologah offense.
The Oologah basketball teams return to action on Saturday at Claremore. Game times are 6:30 and 8 p.m.
