The Class 3A No. 5 Verdigris Cardinals placed fourth in the Port City Classic Saturday afternoon following their 71-36 loss to Victory Christian.
The Cardinals (15-4) led 16-13 after the first quarter, but struggled in the second and third quarters as Victory Christian took control and led 48-25.
In those two quarters, the Cardinals’ offense was shut down and held to nine total points.
Damion Parker paced Victory Christian with a game-high 24 points. Jake Freeman and Chris Crawford also contributed in double figures with 11 points each.
Despite being plagued with foul trouble, senior forward Blake Battenfield led the Cardinals with 13 points. Battenfield picked up his fourth foul late in the third quarter and never returned to the floor.
Chase Bryant also contributed with seven points, while Tyler Monroe had five, Cade Upshaw had three and the following Cardinals — Ryan Skalnik, Kaleb Humphrey and Paul Hollon — had two points each.
