Taylor’s trey seals win for Lady Zebras

Claremore senior guard Miranda Taylor thrived from behind the arc Tuesday night in the Lady Zebras’ 20-18 win over Class 5A No. 7 Skiatook.
Taylor buried two treys in the first half and added the game-winner with 0:08 remaining to finish with a game-high nine points.
With the clocking running down, Taylor caught the swing pass from sophomore point guard Kaleigh Cox in the right corner and the third time proved to be the charm.

Zebras lose Prelesnick to injury, fall to Skiatook

Skiatook guard A.J. Surritte tallied a game-high 21 points and sparked the Bulldogs past the Claremore Zebras, 53-47 Tuesday night in Metro Lakes Conference play.
With the loss, the Zebras dropped to 5-14 on the season.
Claremore led 12-10 at the end of the first quarter, despite starting point guard Garrick Prelesnick being sidelined to an apparent ankle injury for the remainder of the game.

Bargas tosses 2-hitter

The Rogers State University baseball team opened its home slate with a doubleheader sweep over Pittsburg State (Kan.) Tuesday afternoon at Legendary Legion Field.
In the opening game, RSU plated four runs in the first frame and held on for a 4-1 victory. The Hillcats scored early and often in the night cap as they posted runs in all but one inning and tallied an 11-3 win.

Keith sparks No. 5 Verdigris past Dewey

Jordan Keith tallied a game-high 16 points to lift Class 3A No. 5 Verdigris past Dewey, 54-51 Tuesday night in Will Rogers Conference action.
The Cardinals improved to 16-5 overall and will travel to Tahlequah Sequoyah on Friday. Game time is set for 8 p.m.

Chelsea girls squeak past Inola

The Chelsea Lady Dragons escaped Inola with a hard-fought 32-31 win Tuesday night in non-conference action.

Destany Wooten tallied 10 points and Tyler added seven as Chelsea outscored Inola, 9-5, in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.

Inola built a 10-9 first quarter lead, but Chelsea rallied with 13 points to go into halftime up 22-21.

Inola thumps Chelsea, 62-43

Travis Hall and Joseph McFeeters combined for 20 points as the Inola Longhorns rolled past the Chelsea Green Dragons, 62-43 Tuesday night in non-conference action.

Despite Chelsea opening with a 15-14 first quarter lead, Inola exploded in the second quarter outscoring the Green Dragons, 19-3, and headed into halftime up 33-18.

Sequoyah girls topple Sperry, 43-30

Tana Dake powered the Claremore Sequoyah Lady Eagles to a 43-30 win over Sperry Tuesday night in Will Rogers Conference action.

Dake scored a game-high 13 points and Berdena Anderson responded with 10 as Sequoyah improved to 13-8 on the season.

Sperry senior power forward C.J. Cole scored a game-high 28 points to spark the Class 3A No. 4 Pirates past Claremore Sequoyah, 71-59 Tuesday night in Will Rogers Conference action.
Cole and the Pirates led 12-11 at the end of the first quarter, but tallied 24 points in the second to lead 36-27 at halftime.

Ex-OU tight end Freeman named Pryor head football coach

Former Oklahoma Sooners tight end Jason Freeman has been named the next head football coach at Pryor High School.
Freeman takes over for J.R. Winton, who announced his retirement last fall after five seasons coaching the Tigers.

RSU stays at No. 6 in men's basketball poll

Coming off a 2-0 week, the Rogers State men’s basketball team held steady at No. 6 in the 2011-12 NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll released Monday for the third consecutive week.
The Cats were one of only five teams to keep their ranking from last week after eleven teams were upset over the past weekend.
