Inola students featured
November 17, 2009 — Inola students along with their sponsors, Kathy Phillips and Leazanne Bell, and Cathy Tysver recently traveled to Oklahoma City to appear with Miss Oklahoma, Taylor Treat, in State School Superintendent Sandy Garrett’s monthly television show. The show will appear on OETA every Wednesday in December. The show featured “Service- Learning” and highlighted Inola and projects around the state. Antibiotics were dispensed to 160 on Friday at the Oologah-Talala Lower Elementary School following the deaths of two students and the hospitalization of four others from meningococcal disease.

Medical officials have released the name of the second Oologah youth to have died this week from a meningitis-like illness.

Oologah doctor says meningitis outbreak rare
Dr. Sam Stauffer has been the only physician in Oologah for 29 years and he says nothing like this outbreak of meningitis has happened before.
“This is a serious situation,” said Dr. Stauffer, a family practice physician with Omni Medical Group. “It’s very serious. I feel sorry for the families. -
Two Oologah students die from meningitis
Two Oologah-Talala students have died after contracting meningitis.
Early Thursday, seven-year-old Andrew Gregory Thomas died from the disease and school officials announced late Thursday afternoon another child also passed. As of presstime, the child’s name had not been released. -
Oologah cancels Friday classes and activities
Oologah-Talala school officials have cancelled classes and school activities scheduled for Friday, March 12 following the deaths of two elementary school students from bacterial meningitis.

UPDATE - Oologah 7-year-old student dies from meningitis
Rogers County Emergency Management Director Bob Anderson confirmed Thursday morning that a 7- year-old Oologah-Talala student has died from meningitis. Officials plan 2 p.m. press conference.
