Outdoor Classroom walking trail gets asphalt

November 17, 2009 — The Inola High School Outdoor Classroom walking trail is in the process of being asphalted.

Funding for the walking trail was paid for through a grant from the Cherokee Nation Learn & Serve. Rogers County Commissioner Kirt Thacker and his crew have provided manpower and assistance in this project.

“We are very grateful to the Cherokee Nation, John Diacon-Inola Public Schools, and Kirt Thacker and his crew,” said Leazanne Bell, Outdoor Classroom coordinator. “This phase of our service-learning project will provide our students and community a beautiful place to walk. My plants class will plant several trees around the trail in the upcoming weeks.”

Students have been instrumental in all aspects of the outdoor classroom. Since 2005, they have constructed a butterfly garden, pavilion/amphitheater, wetland area, and are in the process of building a greenhouse.
