Rogers County districts receive Bs, Cs and one district a D grade

CLAREMORE — The Oklahoma Department of Education released district and state A-F Report Card grades Wednesday. District and state report cards were calculated in the same way as public school report cards with districts earning a grade point average (GPA) and a letter grade.

Out of the nine Rogers County districts — six received a B, two received a C and one school received a D.
Statewide Oklahoma schools received a C.
Claremore, Oologah-Talala, Sequoyah, Inola,  Verdigris and Owasso all earned Bs while Chelsea and Catoosa both received Cs. Foyil was scored a D even with an 84 percent graduation rate and two of the three district’s schools earning a B.
Individual grades for the state’s 1,752 public schools were released in late October after the state school board unanimously voted to delay the release because of unanswered questions regarding the grading scale’s calculation process.
“This is a continuation of our efforts to provide clear-cut, transparent information to the public, particularly parents, about the performance of their local schools,” said State Superintendent Janet Barresi.
The letter grades are based on 33 percent student achievement, 17 percent overall student growth, 17 percent bottom quartile student growth and 33 percent whole school performance.
For K-12 districts the whole school performance includes factors like student attendance, graduation rates, advanced coursework and parent/community engagement. As for K-8 districts, averages are calculated from middle school performance.
School District and State A-F Report Cards are now available for public viewing at ok.gov.
