JT Board agrees to negotiate new gym location

CLAREMORE — Justus-Tiawah Board of Education approved to negotiate the purchase of six acres in highway frontage property for a new gymnasium. The acreage is located east of the north campus parking lot near the school’s WPA building.

Superintendent David Garroutte said the school only needs one acre; however, the negotiation calls for all six acres of the adjoined land.   
“We will approach the discussion delicately,” said Garroutte. “If we are unable to purchase the frontage property, we do have an available three acres that the district can use.”
The $3.5 million project was approved last August as part of two bond issues which included the purchase of three school buses. The North campus was selected because it was the most cost effective due to utility costs.
Garroutte said the district will not receive funding for the gym until July or August. 
Justus-Tiawah hopes to negotiate a deal sometime before Monday’s school board meeting.
