Carmack honored for excellence in teaching

TULSA — The 43rd Annual Oklahoma Career and Technology Education Summer Conference took place Aug. 2-3, at the Tulsa Convention Center.

The conference is the major professional development activity for Oklahoma CareerTech teachers, counselors, administrators and state staff. Approximately 3500 participants learned innovative technical and instructional skills. They also had the opportunity to network with and learn from their counterparts throughout the state.

The CareerTech Expo is held in conjunction with the conference. The exposition is a valuable resource to CareerTech educators, featuring over 150 exhibiting companies showcasing the latest products and services available in the career and technology education field.

At this year’s conference, a former Chelsean was named Teacher of the Year.

Ken Carmack, Technology Engineering was named International Technology Engineering Educators Association, Teacher of the Year for Teacher Excellence.

The Teacher Excellence Award is one of the highest honors given to Technology and Engineering Education classroom teachers and is presented in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the profession and their students.

Carmack is currently starting his 25th year of teaching Technology Engineering with the last 22 being in Fairview, in Western Oklahoma. He serves as the Northwest Vice-President for the Oklahoma Technology Engineering Association and serves on the Oklahoma Technology Engineering Advisory Council as well as the state Technology Student Association Advisory Council. Carmack is a 1982 graduate of Chelsea High school.
