Rogers County families in need will have help with back to school supplies for their children. First United Methodist Church is again coordinating the program to provide supplies. The project is funded by donations from other churches, businesses, civic groups and individuals.
Contributions are needed.
Last year, this program provided free school supplies to 2,500 children in Rogers County Public Schools. Due to the economy, program leaders anticipate at least that many applicants this year.
Program Coordinator Ray Dawson has stepped out with faith in his community, placing a $38,668 order for supplies. Those who want to help educate Rogers County's young students in this manner are asked to make checks payable to FUMC with a notation on the memo line “School Supplies.”
Parents who need help providing school supplies can come to make application beginning Monday, Aug. 2 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. The application program will be open Monday through Friday until all county schools have started. A parent or adult guardian must first state that a need exists, and then complete the application form with the student's name, school and grade. Each family representative will receive a pick up slip when application is made. That slip will provide the date that supplies will be packed and ready for pick up.
This program serves only students attending Rogers County Public Schools. Families who are receiving aid from other agencies are not eligible.
Community volunteers are manning the sign up desks and packing supplies according to lists provided by teachers.
