CLAREMORE —
A memorial service for William Garfield “Hawk” Hawkins III will be at Memorial Heights Baptist Church on Friday, Jan. 18, 2013 at 3 p.m., under the direction of Rice Funeral Service.
Hawk passed away on Friday, January 11, 2013. He was 62.
Born June 30, 1950 in El Paso, Texas, to William Garfield Hawkins II and Thelma (Price) Hawkins, Hawk was raised and educated in his birth community, graduating from Belair High School. After graduation he served in the United States Navy until receiving an honorable discharge in 1973.
On April 17, 1976 Hawk married the love of his life, Lynne Stubblefield, and the couple was blessed with two great children. Hawk had a diverse work career beginning with the El Paso Fire Department and retiring after 20 years of service. In 1993 after moving to Oklahoma Hawk worked alongside his family at the local movie theaters across Green Country. Hawk also, was successful in starting a silk screening business.
When Hawk wasn’t busy working, some of his favorite past times were target practice with his air rifles and working on his sister and brother-in-law’s pecan farm. Favorite hobbies included riding his Harley-Davidson Hard Tail, and tinkering in his shop which fueled his obsession with tools and love of duct tape. Hawk became a born again Christian in 2005. He enjoyed his Sunday School Class and being a part of the Rogers County Jail Ministry. Hawk also had a special way of letting those that meant the most to him know it — and that was by giving them their own nickname.
Those that survive are his wife Lynne Hawkins of the home; son William Garfield Hawkins IV and Krystle; daughter Nicole Hawkins; grandchildren Madelyn Hawkins and Cruz Castañeda; sister Bernadette Scott and husband Ronnie; nieces Michelle and Jeanann ; and nephew Stephen. Hawk was preceded in death by his parents.
