James E. 'Jim' Oliver

CLAREMORE — Services for Jim Oliver are 10 a.m., Tuesday at Saint Cecilia Catholic Church.  Burial followed at Chelsea Cemetery under the direction of Rice Funeral Service.  Jim passed away on Fri., Nov. 30, 2012.  He was 64.

Born on July 12, 1948, in Tulsa, to Claude Charles and Frances Muriel (Wickwire) Oliver, Jim was reared and educated in his birth community.  Following his graduation from Central High School, Jim married Linda Louise O’Neill.  The young couple made their home in California and later Alexandria, Virginia while he was in the Army.  While serving his country, Jim was trained and specialized in computers and computer programming.  When he was honorably discharged from his duties, Jim and Linda moved back to Tulsa.  A job with Phillips Petroleum prompted a move to Bartlesville and later when he took employment with the Williams Company they moved to Claremore.  This has been home since 1978, an idea rural community in which to raise his family.

Jim enjoyed many activities which included water skiing, fishing, playing the guitar and singing.  He was very close to Linda’s family, especially her father.  They spent many weekends in Nowata boating at the lake with them.  Jim usually brought his guitar with him and sang, which always drew a crowd.  He had a wonderful sense of humor and could, or at least would try to, convince you of anything; his joke telling was more than a hobby.  Able to see the needs of others, Jim was generous and helped whenever he could.  His son’s friends felt they had a second father in Jim when he was their soccer coach.  Jim was great with his hands and was able to keep their fleet of vehicles in tip top shape.  An avid OU fan, he cheered his Sooners on at every opportunity.

A husband, father, grandfather and friend, Jim leaves treasured memories for all who knew him.  He is survived by his wife Linda of their home in Claremore; his daughter Kristin Louise Oliver and husband David Wilson of Bentonville, Ark., and his son Jeffrey James Oliver and wife Shiloh Wollard-Oliver of Pittsburg Pa.; his grandchildren Ethan Oliver Wilson, Jenna Caroline Wilson and Raden Grace Oliver; his brother Claude Charles Oliver, Jr. and wife Sharon; special little sis, Carol Weaver and several cousins.  Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
