CLAREMORE — Services for Larry James Garrett will be 2 p.m., Friday, June 15, 2012 at Eastern Hills Baptist Church.  Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Rice Funeral Service.

Friends may visit at the funeral home from noon to 8 p.m. with the family receiving visitors from 6 to 8 p.m.

Larry left his earthly home for an eternal home in heaven on Monday, June 11, 2012. He was 66.

Born in Purcell, Okla., on Nov. 9, 1945 to James and Alice (Moten ) Garrett, Larry attended Oologah and Talala schools, then OMA.

He completed his schooling at NSU, graduating in 1968 and taught school in Tulsa for one semester before being drafted into the Army.

In 1970 Larry received an honorable discharge and taught for another semester before joining the Claremore Police Department.

On May 31, 1974, Larry and Ruth Huber Eaton married.  Together they raised four children.

Larry gave 20 years of service to the police department, from 1971 until his retirement holding the rank of Captain in 1991. Retirement years were filled with tractors, horses, cattle and other livestock.

Saddling up and bringing the cattle in on his family’s Talala property was always high adventure.   He enjoyed the hard work and sacrifice required from a rancher.  Four children and 22 active grandchildren and great grandchildren multiplied into innumerable sporting events, activities and performances and Larry was determined to support them all.

He was the perfect role model for his sons who emulate his fathering.

As a greeter at Eastern Hills Baptist Church he had a welcoming smile and a warm handshake for each person who came through the door, pointing others to the Lord by his example.

Loving family man, husband, father, grandfather and community servant, Larry is survived by his wife, Ruth, of their home in Claremore; children Jami Replogle and husband, Darron, of Catoosa, Dave Eaton and wife, Paula, Ryan Eaton and wife, Jani, and John Garrett and wife, Elizabeth, all of Claremore; grandsons, Shon Farris and wife, Kimber, Casey Farris, Dakotah Eaton and wife, Bailey, Ben Replogle, Sam Replogle, Jacob Eaton, Hunter, Jorden and Jack Smith; granddaughters Cailee Callaway and husband Chris, Paige Eaton, Sarah Replogle, Janna and Jacey Eaton, Brittan and Emily Garrett, and Grace Smith; five great grandchildren; his brother Robert Garrett and wife, Sharon and a large extended family and many friends.  Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Danny.
