Services for Kimberly Jo Underwood will be 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at First Baptist Church of Claremore. She will be laid to rest at Lone Elm Cemetery following the service. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 4 to 8 on Friday evening. Kimberly passed away at her home on Monday, Feb. 6, 2012. She was 54 years old.
Born in Van Nuys, Calif. on May 27, 1957, Kim was raised and educated in Sioux Falls, S. D. graduating from Washington High School. On Sept. 25, 1976, Kimberly and Ronald John “Ron” Underwood were married and made their home in Sioux Falls. An employment opportunity took the Underwoods to Tulsa in the early ‘80’s and Claremore seemed the ideal place to raise a family. Although her young family kept Kimberly’s days full she found time to manage the family business, a convenience store east of Claremore.
Artistic and creative, Kimberly enjoyed painting and a variety of crafts and antiques. The family spent memorable days at the lake camping, boating, swimming and just being together with family and friends. She was her children’s biggest fan and supported them in all of their sports and other activities. When her parents’ health failed Kimberly willingly took on the role of caretaker. She served them lovingly and cheerfully.
With a servant’s heart, Kimberly enjoyed opportunities to graciously meet others’ needs. She leaves her family with that legacy of faith, fun, service, and love. She is survived by her husband, Ron, her son Nicholas John Underwood and wife, Renee of Sand Springs; her son Christopher Lee Underwood and wife, Kimberly, of Tulsa; and her daughter, Stephanie Ann Underwood, of Claremore; her grandchildren Jensen Keith Underwood and Tatum Nichole Underwood; her brother Mark Olson and wife, Kimberly of Sioux Falls; her brother Marshall Olson of Sioux Falls; her aunt and uncle, Dr. Loren and Nadine Farstead of Sioux Falls, Her aunt Virginia Erickson of Westerville, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Joe and Nona Bechtold.
Please send any memorial contribution in Kimberly’s name to Cancer Treatment Centers of America, 10109 E. 79th St., Tulsa, OK 74133.
