CLAREMORE —
Services for Dorothy Auldon Twist will be Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013 at Memorial Heights Baptist Church in Claremore. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Rice Funeral Service.
Visitation will be today from 1-7 p.m. at the funeral home with family receiving visitors from 5-7 p.m.
Auldon entered her heavenly rest on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013. She was 91.
Auldon, the third of six children born to Fred Staffan and Irene (Blackburn) Staffan in Hanson, Okla., was born on Jan. 14, 1922. She married Foster Twist in Gans, Okla. on Dec. 29, 1936 and they immediately left for Washington state to find work. This trip was repeated many times.
Their first child, Melba, was born in Hanson and the second, Dennis, was born seven years later in the same house, same room. Auldon took both children on a train to California where Foster was working in the shipyards when Denny was 6 months old.
Auldon became the family story teller after Foster died. Many enjoyed her tales of their adventures including the flamingoes, the walnut tree, and leaving their beans with her sister Mildred to find work and coming back in time to retrieve the beans for their dinner.
They settled in Claremore in 1958 where they established a beauty and barber shop. The barber shop was located in the old Mason Hotel, and they built a new beauty shop on the west side. Auldon’s provided the training ground for many beginning beauticians. Meeting with former employees was a highlight of Auldon’s life.
Auldon enjoyed her church family, playing cards, cooking, socializing and her family. The church family and Brother Paul and the staff were especially comforting when Auldon lost her husband and son. The Sunday school class was important to Auldon. She was heard to say she would love to spend all her time cooking. Her specialty was her raisin and apricot fried pies. She was also a member of the Claremore Hospital Auxiliary.
Her family includes a daughter, Melba, three grandchildren and spouses, Keith and Diana Quinton of Oklahoma City, Dawn Quinton of Tulsa, and Misti and Dennis Scarbrough of Inola. Great grandchildren are Chris, Ginger and Ben, and Alex of Oklahoma City, James of Claremore and Gary of Inola. And, making 5 generations, are great-great grandchildren Ralyn and Bryce. She also loved and was loved by Jasmine, Laren, Abby, Matthew, Cody and Tiffany of Tulsa, a sister Lois Anderson of Wenatchee, WA, a sister-in-law Wilma Willey of Redlands, Calif., and Linda Staffon of Dos Palos, Calif. and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her sweet ways and loving nature leave a hole in the lives of all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, both brothers, Freddy and J.C. Staffan of Dos Palos, Calif., two sisters and husbands, Mildred and Sam Lessley of Wichita, Estelle and Clinton Ledford of Pearl River, La., and brothers-in-law Joe Willey of Redlands, Calif. and Oscar Anderson of Wenatchee, Wash.
