CLAREMORE —
Loretta Boyd of Claremore and longtime Oologah resident, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at the age of 63.
She was born Dec. 23, 1949, in Nowata, Okla., to Roy Frank and Doris Elaine (Worden) Thomason. Loretta was reared and educated in Oologah and graduated with the Oologah High School Class of 1968. She served as class President and was known as a great basketball player.
To this day, if you are talking in basketball circles and mention her name, someone will say “isn't she that good player from Oologah?”, which always made her proud. She also helped organize the class reunions every year, not just every five years as most do now.
Loretta owned and operated German Acres Video Store for eight years. She was married May 14, 1994, in Oologah, to James Boyd, and was the able to retire and become a “Farm Girl”. She helped raise cattle and whitetail deer, and was not afraid to help with anything. She made pets out of some and everyone had a name. She loved bottle feeding the newborn doe fawns in the back yard until they start eating her precious flowers and bushes, then they had to back to the barn. Loretta loved watching her kids play sports in high school and made most of their events. Most of all, she loved her grandchildren. You would always see her eyes light up when the kids came to see Nana. She was very big on family and went to every gathering they had no matter how bad she felt. Loretta enjoyed a variety of pastimes including collecting Precious Moments, Home Interiors, Eagles, Snowmen, and things in general. It was a must for her to stop at every garage sale.
Loretta was fortunate to do some traveling making stops in Germany, Paris, Alaska, and the Caribbean. She went on a whirlwind trip to the Northeastern United States where she toured New York, saw the Statue of Liberty, and even got to see Niagara Falls. She was loved by all and will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Loving family members include: Her husband: James Boyd of the home; son, Dustin Lester of Midland, Texas; daughter, Dana Abshere and her husband, Glen, of Claremore; granddaughter, Jordan; grandson, Wes; stepdaughter, Jennifer Puckett and grandson, Cooper, of Oologah; stepson, Jason Boyd and his wife, Jackie, and grandsons Aiden and Ethan, of Verdigris; brothers, Clifford Thomason and his wife, Gloria, of Collinsville; Leonard Thomason and his wife, Kim, of Oologah. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Broc Lester.
Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, with family receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at the Oologah Assembly of God with Pastor Kent Jensen officiating. Serving as casket bearers will be Chad Thomason, Jeremy Thomason, Heath Thomason, Jason Thomason, Fred Walker and Glen Abshere. Committal services and interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Talala, Oklahoma. The family requests memorial contributions be made in Loretta's memory to the Oologah Assembly of God Building Fund, 13462 South Highway 169, Oologah, OK 74053. Arrangements and services entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso. www.moweryfs.com.
