Scott Anthony Sanders

CLAREMORE — Memorial service for Scott Anthony Sanders will be 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012 in the Chapel of the Garden at Rice Funeral Service. Scott passed away on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012. He was 69.

Born May 22, 1943 in Holdenville, Okla. to Scott Edward and Leah Morrison (Hovenitz) Sanders, Scott was reared and educated in his birth community.  Following his schooling, he began a life adventure with a series of jobs that took him across the U.S., enjoying the freedom of living wherever employment took him.  Eventually he took a job in California with the Teamsters as a union negotiator.

In Sept. of 1995 he and Sandra Burk married, together they have made their home in the Chelsea area.  As a young man, Scott loved to repair and restore cars and eventually became a very good mechanic.  This skill was most helpful when he worked for Dave’s RV in the service department for 15 years.

A people person, Scott was one that never met a stranger.  He was an avid reader and loved Civil War history, he also researched genealogy.  Scott’s other hobbies included leather working, watching Nascar racing and listening to music.  He enjoyed Sunday drives with Sandra that took them of the beaten path.  Sometimes running out of road but always having a journey.  An animal lover, Scott couldn’t reject any stray that came along; his home was always open to the needy.

Scott is survived by his family which include his wife Sandra of their home in Chelsea; stepchildren, Peggy Hoskins and husband Carl, Anthony Fain all of AK, Cindy Vanaman and husband Andy of Claremore and Steven Johnson and wife Brandy of Panama, NY; his grandchildren, Anthony Smith, Heather Jacobs, Andrew Vanaman, Rylee Vanaman, Annabelle Vanaman and Nathan Johnson; his brothers, Mike Sanders and wife Lee Ann of Longview, Texas and Jimmy Barry and wife Ineta;  sister Susie Barry-Baker of Hamilton, VA; his brother-in-law Don Baker; his niece Tina James and husband Justin and nephew J.W. Barry and wife Beth and his great-niece Baylee Barry and great-nephew Jessie James.  Scott was preceded in death by his parents.
