Ollie Hosey Cowling

OWASSO —  

Ollie Hosey Cowling, 74, died on Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010 in an assisted living facility.

She was born on Oct. 16, 1935, the daughter of the late Maggie Davidson Hosey and Hugh Houston Hosey in Mineral Springs, Ark. She was the 13th of 14 children.

Ms. Cowling was a retired human resources manager for Stone and Webster Engineering in Houston,  Texas. She previously worked for the Missouri Department of Revenue in St. Louis, Mo.

Upon retirement from Stone and Webster, she relocated to St. Louis, Mo. and later to Owasso, Okla.

She is survived by a son, Randy Cowling of Owasso, Okla.; a daughter and son-in-law Rhonda and William E. Rickermann of St. Louis; a brother, Verland Eugene Hosey of Dallas; four grandchildren, Jen and J. D. Reynolds of Topeka, Kan.; Kyle and Kristen Rickermann of St. Louis; Emily Cowling of Topeka and Corey Rickermann of St. Louis; one great-grandson, Liam Reynolds of Topeka; her former husband Marion F. Cowling of St. Louis and numerous extended family and friends.

She married Marion F. Cowling on April 8, 1955.

As a student at Mineral Springs High School she was a standout athlete and scholar. She was named valedictorian of the Mineral Springs High School Class of 1953. 

As a freshman and senior she was selected to the 7-West All-District basketball squad. During her senior year she led the Hornets to a district victory over rival Nashville. The Texarkana Gazette called her "Miss Basketball" in anyone's league following losses to Ashdown.

Ms. Cowling was a four-year letterman in basketball. She also was president of the MHS Student Council, vice president  of the MHS Glee Club, editor of the school paper - The Hornet, and member of the FHA. She was crowned Homecoming Queen her senior year in 1952.

Ms. Cowling was preceded in death by her parents and five brothers and seven sisters.

Mowery Funeral Services is handling local arrangements.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2010 at the Nashville Funeral Home, Nashville, Ark.

 Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home with burial at Shiloh Cemetery.

The family ask that memorial contributions be made to Owasso Community Resources, 109 N. Birch, Owasso, Ok. 74055.
