Claremore, OK — Services for Naomi Boyd will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at the First Christian Church. She will be laid to rest beside her husband, Loy, at Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Rice Funeral Service. Friends may visit at the funeral home from noon to 8 Tuesday. Naomi passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2009, at the age of 87. Born Oct. 7, 1921, in Wilsonville, Neb. to Eddie Albert and Gladys Iola (Wollen) Gill, Naomi received her education in her birth community, graduating from high school in Wilsonville.
It was work that brought Loy Carl Boyd to Nebraska, following his duties with the Army and while taking a room in a boarding house he met Naomi Fisher and the two hit it off. The couple married on Jan. 23, 1947, and made their home in Nebraska and Washington State before returning to Claremore, where Loy’s family lived.
Naomi busied herself tending to her family and home. It wasn’t until her children were a little older that she went to work as the secretary for the First Christian Church, a position she held for 24 years. Naomi was a very active person which suited her as an aerobics instructor for the senior adults at the church. She also supported her husband during his 25 years serving as treasurer of Rogers County.
When they found time to relax Naomi and Loy enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and Tunica. They had fun playing cards with their friends, but Naomi’s favorite time was that spent with her family, especially her precious grandchildren.
Those family members that survive include her children, Carleen Mitchell, James Boyd and wife, Loretta, all of Claremore and Mary Kinney and husband, Michael, of North Las Vegas; her grandchildren, Shelly Jones and husband, Rick, of Claremore, Mike Ryan and wife, Melissa, of Collinsville, Jennifer Puckett and husband, David, of Oologah, Jason Boyd and wife, Jackie, also of Claremore, Carrie Steffensen of Tulsa and Sarah Denney of Springfield Mo.; 11great grandchildren; her sister Oleta Lueking and husband Kent of Oxford, Neb.; and two brothers. Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, husband Loy, her daughter Sandra Walker, four brothers and two sisters.
Memorial contributions may be made in Naomi’s honor to the First Christian Church Building Fund, 200 E. 5th Street, Claremore, OK 74017.
